Cheetahs are the fastest land animals on Earth. They reach speeds up to 110 km/h in short bursts. Their spots provide excellent camouflage in the grass that allow them to stalk and target their prey though they lose many kills to lions and hyenas.

Male lions in the Mara are impressively strong: they're about 7 times stronger than a human, can jump over 3 times farther, and have a bite force 5 times stronger than ours. Their manes get darker and fuller with age, signaling strength and attractiveness to females

Dwarf mongooses are the smallest carnivores in Africa. These tiny animals form tight family groups of up to 30 and often use termite mounds as lookout points and dens.

Mongooses in the Mara are highly social. They communicate constantly with chirps, whistles, and calls while foraging and watching for danger.

Leopards are the most elusive of the Big Cats in the Mara. They are solitary and highly secretive, blending perfectly into the bush with their rosette-patterned coats that act like unique fingerprints. They often rest and hide in acacia trees during the day. Sightings frequently involve a leopard draped elegantly over a branch, perfectly camouflaged against the leaves.

Newborn giraffe calves drop to the ground from almost 2 metres high when born. They can stand and run within minutes, which is vital for survival in the predator-rich Mara.

Giraffes have a unique walking style called pacing. They move both right legs forward together, then both left legs, giving them a graceful yet swaying gait.
